Berlin

It is the capital city of the Federal Republic of Germany and one of the sixteen Länder. It is located in northeastern Germany.
It is crossed by the rivers Spree and Havel. With a population of 3.4 million inhabitants, Berlin is the most populous city and theconurbation fifth among European Union countries.

 
Founded in 1237 as Cölln, Berlin was successively the capital of the Kingdom of Prussia (1701-1918), the German Empire (1871-1918), the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) and Third (1933-1945).After the Second World War the city was divided, the eastern part of the city became the capital of East Germany, while the regionbecame an enclave of Germany in West Germany.
It is one of the most influential in the political arena of the European Union and in 2006 was chosen by UNESCO Creative City. In 2009 the town received the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord.
